GeumGye DongNip

One legged stance to improve equalibrium

GeumGye DongNip (Geum: gold, Gye: chicken, Dong: alone, Nip: to stand - form of crane with one-legged stance) or GeumGye in brief resembles the one-legged stance of the long-lived crane or that of a very furious/fierce fighting chicken keeping an eye on the opponent for sparring.

How to do

One performs WonBahnJang to the right.

Lift the left leg as high as possible, then center the left knee in front of the abdomen. The left foot should be placed as straight forward as possible.

Stretching the left ankle, place the tip of the left bigtoe on the right knee (the left knee should be kept held at the same height or as high as possible by the abodminal strength).

The left leg should hold the body as low to the ground aspossible.

The gaze should be focused at the middle fingertip and the feet are firm against the floor with power focused at the toe tips.

Do abdominal breathing in the static pose (& hold it as long as possible as one advances)

The Benefits

Maintainingthe balance of the body with one leg heightens the sense of equilibrium. It intensifies the inner force of the lower abdomen, which facilitates the smooth movements of the stomach and small and large intestines. GeumGye DongNip is held to be conducive to longevity.
