HeoGong

Strengthening the inner-muscles of the thigh

HeoGong (a form of crouched tiger on the ground) or "BokKoSe" is a pose that resembles a crouched tiger on the ground ready to jump or bound to the opponent. It¡¯s very useful for counterattacking the opponent. HeoGong is the most difficult position for beginners, who usually cannot hold it for more than a few seconds. It requires great flexibility and power of the waist, and also the most fully stretched leg.

How to do

One turns the left foot outward to a 90 degree angle.

Advance the right foot four or more steps, considering the proportion of one's height and leg length.

Bend the left knee to a 90 degree angle, with the right heel angled outward to 90 degrees.

The right ankle should be flexed inward with the right tiptoes lifted and stretched inward.

The right knee should be flexed backward while the left back is arched and left buttock pushed out.

Perform WonBahnJang to the right.

The gaze should be focused at the middle fingertip and the feet are firm against the floor with power focused at the toe tips.

How to do HeoGong HaBahnJang

Perform HaBahnJang (as in the video on the right).

Then hold it in a triangle shape (ranging from the palm above the head to the buttock, from the buttock to the heel, & from the heel to the fingertips above the head).

The gaze should be focused at the center of the back of the hand.

Do abdominal breathing in the static pose (& hold it as long as possible as one advances).

* Keynote: Since this pose brings a lot of tension in the back, the instructor's guidance is essential for those with spinal problems.

The Benefits

HeoGong is a unique pose which can be found, maybe, only in GiCheon, training the inner-muscles of the thigh. It can help diet on the legs and build slim and strong legs. It helps the Gi circulate throughout the arms and legs by expanding and stretching the waist and legs to the utmost degree, and then intensifies the stomach and spleen Gi channels. It also intensifies the internal force with the Gi well circulated located inside the legs.

It helps improve flexibility of the entire body and dynamics of the power & mobility.
