GeumGye
DongNip (Geum: gold, Gye: chicken, Dong: alone, Nip: to stand - form of crane
with one-legged stance) or GeumGye in brief resembles the one-legged stance of
the long-lived crane or that of a very furious/fierce fighting chicken keeping
an eye on the opponent for sparring.
Lift the left leg as high as possible, then center it in
front of the abdomen.
Stretching the left ankle, place the tip of the left big
toe on the right knee.
The left leg should hold the body as low to the ground as
possible.
The feet are firm against the floor with power focused at
the toetips.
The Benefits
Maintaining
the balance of the body with one leg heightens the sense of equilibrium. It
intensifies the inner force of the lower abdomen, which facilitates the smooth
movements of the stomach and small and large intestines. GeumGye DongNip is held
to be conducive to longevity.
